On November 13, 2023, Samsung revealed that its UK store had suffered an online data breach that might have risked the private information of its many UK customers.

After the announcement, many parties are waiting for the news on whether they can face legal trouble; however, at the moment, no one is planning on suing the global company.

Samsung has revealed the affected customers would be those who shopped between July 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020; however, suspicion about the data breach only arose in November 2023.

The hackers were able to gain information regarding customers’ names, postal addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses; however, they made it abundantly clear to a source that they were not able to get any other personal information or the credit card numbers of the customers.

This was the third time that hackers were able to get hold of Samsung stores and breach their personal data. The first event took place in March 2022, when a group of hackers named Lapsus$ hacked the company for the first time and just three months later, another hacker group whose name hasn’t been disclosed yet.

data breach occurs when unauthorized individuals or groups gain unauthorized access to sensitive, confidential, or protected information. This could include personal data such as names, addresses, social security numbers, credit card details, or corporate information such as trade secrets, financial records, or intellectual property.

Hackers use various techniques to exploit vulnerabilities in a system’s security, allowing them to access this information. Once they breach the system, they might steal, manipulate, or delete data, causing harm to individuals or organizations affected by the breach.

The consequences of a data breach can be severe, leading to financial losses, reputational damage, and potential legal issues for the impacted parties.
